Let’s keep social distance

2025 Fall

When we move closer to another person and begin to speak, can we see ourselves reflected in their face?

This project explores the subtle yet fragile boundaries that exist between people. As the viewer approaches the installation, the facial image on the screen gradually distorts, eventually becoming unsettling.
This transformation materializes the psychological discomfort caused by the violation of personal space—a sense of unease that emerges from excessive proximity, prolonged gaze, and unwanted intrusion. Through visual deformation, the installation reveals the delicate threshold between intimacy and oppression.

When the body enters a system, is movement still just movement?
This project constructs an interactive space composed of four elements—Air, Fire, Water, and Earth—activated through gesture, proximity, and pressure. Rather than demanding precise commands, the installation responds to the rhythm, hesitation, and continuity of the body, framing interaction as a ritualistic exchange.

Within this space, the elements are not controlled but negotiated. Through thresholds, delays, and gradual feedback, the system amplifies the uncertainty of bodily movement, drawing attention to how presence itself alters the state of the environment.

By translating physical perception into a tangible act of world-building, the installation explores the symbiotic relationship between human action and responsive systems, revealing a continuous cycle of intention, energy, and feedback.
